Michael Snider, known artistically as Kooliverse, is a visionary multimedia artist based in Alton, Illinois. Celebrated for his massive, imaginative works that blend surrealism with cultural storytelling, Snider has carved out a unique voice in the world of contemporary public art. His large-scale installations push the boundaries of traditional form, inviting viewers into immersive, otherworldly experiences that are as emotionally resonant as they are visually striking.
With roots deeply planted in community and creative expression, Snider’s work often pays tribute to local history and collective memory. His current project—a monumental sculpture honoring Alton-born jazz legend Miles Davis—is set to incorporate over 1,000 trumpets on a 40-foot steel frame. The piece will debut in phases, with the first unveiling at the Mississippi River Festival 2025, where Snider also serves as Fine Arts Director.
Snider’s work can also be seen at The Conservatory, a popular live music venue in downtown Alton, where several of his installations are on display. In addition, a feature-length documentary chronicling his artistic journey and the creation of the Miles Davis sculpture is in production by Shift Studios and will premiere at the Mississippi River Festival in 2026.
As Kooliverse, Snider’s mission is to create art that expands imaginations, honors legacy, and connects people through shared visual storytelling.
